Jiban Biswas

Works by Jiban Biswas

Artist Overview

Jiban Biswas’s practice is a lyrical exploration of Bengal’s rural landscape, where the cow appears as a recurring metaphor for harmony, sustenance, and the sacred bond between humans and the natural world. Moving beyond mere representation, his cattle become quiet yet powerful protagonists within dreamlike pastoral settings, embodying ideas of memory, fertility, coexistence, and cultural continuity. Through a nuanced interplay of colour, texture, and rhythmic composition, Biswas transforms everyday rural imagery into poetic visual meditations that oscillate between the real and the imagined. His works evoke a sense of nostalgia and spirituality while reaffirming the enduring dialogue between tradition, ecology, and contemporary artistic expression.
