Works by Saroj Basu
Artist Overview
Saroj Basu’s practice explores the emotional and tactile possibilities of form through a distinctly modernist lens. Rooted in the artistic traditions of Bengal yet deeply intuitive in approach, his works negotiate abstraction and figuration with equal fluidity.
Through layered textures, rhythmic compositions, and sculptural sensibilities, Basu creates visual narratives that evoke memory, movement, and inner states of being rather than literal representation. His oeuvre reflects a sustained engagement with materiality and spatial balance, resulting in works that are both contemplative and expressive, bridging personal introspection
with broader human experience.
Over a career spanning more than four decades, Basu has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions across India, including at the Academy of Fine Arts, Birla Academy of Art & Culture, Lalit Kala Akademi, and Jahangir Art Gallery. His long-standing practice reflects a sustained contribution to the evolving discourse of modern and contemporary Indian art.
